EMDR Therapy
My EMDR Training
I am a fully trained practitioner in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and a member of EMDR All-Ireland. I completed Parts 1–3 of my training with Consultant Psychologist Sandi Richman, a leading EMDR trainer who was herself trained by the originator of EMDR, Dr. Francine Shapiro. I have also completed specialist training in EMDR for adolescents and children with Susan Darker-Smith.
This specialist training means I can safely and effectively use EMDR to help clients process and heal from traumatic experiences.
What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR is a structured and evidence-based therapy designed to help people recover from the effects of trauma and other distressing life experiences. During sessions, you briefly focus on a difficult memory while engaging in bilateral stimulation (often guided eye movements). This process helps the brain “reprocess” the memory so that it becomes less vivid and emotionally overwhelming.
Research shows that EMDR is highly effective for treating trauma and PTSD, and it is also used to support people dealing with anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, addictions, and chronic pain. Studies have even shown EMDR to be more effective than medication alone in the treatment of trauma.
EMDR is now practised in over 130 countries and has helped millions of people worldwide.
For those who would like to learn more, there are many helpful videos on YouTube that explain the process and demonstrate how EMDR works in practice.
